Nutritional Supplements & Herbal Remedy Benefits

Welcome to a world of nutritional possibilities. As growing numbers feel that modern medicine fails to address the issues that are important to them, people are increasingly turning to nutritional, dietary and herbal supplements to prevent diseases and promote general good health. Currently anyone can indulge in a vast array of nutritional supplements. One amazing aspect of these bars, shakes, snacks and meal replacements is the fact that they're quite practical and compact. A lot of individuals are now choosing these nutritional supplements for breakfast, lunch or merely a snack.

Therefore, our bodies struggle to get all the basic elements we need to function properly. Nutritional supplements can provide the essential elements our bodies need to thrive, and to achieve optimum health. When you consider all the hustle and bustle of today's world, it's no big surprise that most of us fail to get a well-balanced diet. We all know that, it's not easy preparing three nutritious meals every day. Especially when our careers don't allow such free time and convenience. This is why so many of us are led a stray by fast food ads and clever marketing. We see those tempting commercials and desire that juicy burger and fries. But, we have to get out of the rut. We can find a lot of alternatives as fast and easy today. Think handy supplements such as protein bars, breakfast shakes, and meal replacement snacks. With these you can curb that hunger and receive the supplements benefits in the process.

If you want to find high and low for great nutritional supplements, you truly won't have to look far. Almost grocery and drug store currently carry at least a few handy meal supplements and vitamin-rich snacks to tide you over until dinner. While you probably assume that General Nutrition Stores are the best places to pinpoint new-age nutritional supplements, I encourage you to consider the Internet as well.

There is an overwhelming wealth of information about nutritional supplements or herbal supplements available today, and it can be difficult to know where to begin. But without proper knowledge, you are simply gambling with your health. Through can find online hundreds of great vitamins, meal replacement bars, protein shakes and healthy snacks to choose from. Furthermore, there are an assortment of deals and specials to be taken full advantage of on the web. High-rated nutritional supplements can be purchased in majority for a lower cost. But, ensure that you are making choices that will benefit your health.

And here's a few tips regarding today's massive world of nutritional supplements, here's an idea of where to begin. You only have to do is start with the convenient bars and multivitamins. All you need is a sip of water with these nutritional supplements and they assist your body with acquiring the daily recommended nutrients. In regards to bars, some you may enjoy are Clif bars, Pure Protein bars, Luna bars for women, Soy Joy bars, Met-RX Meal Replacement bars, Clif Builder bars, Odwalla bars and Geni-Soy bars. All of these great nutritional supplements can be found on the web and in local drugstores.

The needs of individuals vary greatly, and experts don't agree about the benefits of supplements. Thus, people are making their own choices about what supplements to take both botanical and nutritional for purposes ranging from sports nutrition and longevity to dieting aids. Many people are taking several different supplements at the same time.

Important to remember that our body need more vitamins and minerals. This is where fast food is seriously lacking. Although these ingredients take a terrible toll on your body, the other negative aspect of fast food is that it offers you nothing good at all. It's like filling your stomach with garbage. In this world nowadays, our body need more healthy meals. That's why so many individuals are now considering supplements benefits. Such as taking wonderful bars and multivitamins. You should be taking one of these each and every day with a meal. This way your body can absorb plenty of the nutrients it lacks from ordinary meals. Start your multivitamin regime at an early age if possible. The earlier the better.

For all these reasons, there is a clear need for more and better information for you to act both safely and wisely. Well, let me keep things simple for you. What are you looking to focus on as far as your body and health are concerned? There are plenty of supplements for that if you want more protein in your diet. Or if you're searching for a more complete energizing snack bar, then you may want to check out what Clif bars have to offer. Great Price Clif Bar for $23.87

Clif Bar Energy Bars, Apricot, 2.4-Ounce Bars 12 Count box ( Pack of 2 ) Review

While they may not have the best appearance, they do have a remarkably
good taste that closely approximates "the real thing" in terms of
flavor. When you open the package, the aroma is also quite close to
the actual flavor.

I use to use PowerBars. These taste much better, and have more
nutritional value.

Since I often have to use these in lieu of a proper lunch and sometimes
even dinner (especially when traveling) I wish that they had 100% of the
various vitamins and minerals required each day. At least they have some
unlike other brands.

They do have a fair amount of fat, but at least it is not trans or saturated.

I do recommend these as the best choice of such "bars and supplements"
currently available.

Tri-O-Plex Protein bar 12pk -peanut butter choc chip Feature

  • protein, strength gain, energy
  • great taste, great snack, take on the go!

Tri-O-Plex Protein bar 12pk -peanut butter choc chip Overview

A satisfying snack that can go anywhere. A whole grain protein bar. 30 Grams of protein. Great taste. Soft & moist. 3 Sourced protein (TRI). Whole oats. Meal Replacement. High fiber. After cooking for the hotels of Las Vegas with healthy style bakery goods. One item was a health bar made of oats, raisins and honey. Soon I started getting calls from people outside the Las Vegas area who wanted me to ship them my delicious bars. I have since devoted my life to producing the best tasting, healthiest bats available. I still make them myself (with some help from my team) in the heart of Las Vegas, although I have since moved out of that 700 sq ft muffin shop and into that dream kitchen I have aways wanted. I hope you enjoy eating them as much as I enjoy making them.

Barbados' Top-Rated Restaurants According to Zagat - Part 2

Barbados isn't just a pretty face; she cooks up amazing food, too, and offers it in settings that, until you visited the island, you only saw in glossy brochures. Great food, kind service, and an over-the-top romantic settings make for memorable experiences to take home from Barbados. So promises the famous Zagat guide, whose 1500-plus diners recommend the following:

L'Azure: At the Crane Resort on the southeast "corner" of Barbados, this cliff-side bright and airy restaurant is the place to go for an "incredible Sunday gospel brunch," although it offers "fabulous Caribbean" seafood any day of the week. Go early to walk the award-winning pink-sand beach that you'll be perched above when you dine. St. Philip, Crane Beach Hotel

Café Luna: Perched on an intimate rooftop of the boutique-y Little Arches Hotel, the "gourmet" eclectic/Mediterranean creations wow as much as the moon reflecting off the waters of Oistins Bay. Christ Church, Little Arches Hotel

Lone Star: This chi-chi west coast restaurant is a "fantastic seaside" place where you may encounter one of the many "celebs" who visit the island and are in the mood for really good eclectic-Mediterranean steak and fish dishes - and, of course, to be seen. Also, a very small, exclusive hotel of the same name promises quite special accommodations. St James, Lone Star Hotel

Josef's: Request a table by the sea for one of the most romantic settings on the island. The "inventive" menu is often "brilliant," whether you choose the "unique, delicious" sushi or "tasty" eclectic eats. Christ Church, in the heart of St. Lawrence Gap

Fish Pot: "Worth the drive," Zagat says, to the far northwest coast -- but remember, Barbados is only 14 by 21 miles large anyway. You'll long remember your wonderful, fresh seafood meal and wonderful service at Fish Pot, as you look over a "sparkling" Caribbean Sea. St. Peter, Little Good Harbour

Every one of these restaurants sits at the sea's edge, so remember to call ahead and request a table as close to the water as possible. After all, your holiday won't last forever, so grab every bit of island beauty you possibly can. And take home some wonderful dining memories from the Caribbean island known as "The Jewel of the Caribbean."

Bitten by the Surfing Bug? Eat Well & Live Well

Have you said goodbye to boring workouts, and now often making frequent weekend escapes to enjoy sun, sea and waves? If you and your friends have been hit by the surfing bug and have tried paddling and catching a wave, then you know how exciting and challenging it can be.

You need to work out, that's for sure. You need to strengthen your shoulders and arms for paddling. Conditioning for surfing also requires strengthening the lower back, legs, and other major body parts, including the mind. Aside from a regular workout like long-distance cycling, running and swimming to build greater stamina and endurance, and doing yoga to increase flexibility and mind power, good nutrition greatly helps.

Eating the right foods will help surfers increase muscular endurance that's important for paddling and catching waves. Poor eating habits throw a person off balance. So surfers end up falling more easily, getting tired quickly, and sustaining injuries. A body that lacks nutrients also has a compromised emotional and mental clarity. An unhealthy person lacks focus and energy which are essential to the sport.

To complement body conditioning for surfing, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink two to three liters of water every single day. Some people may ask if eating well really plays a part in becoming a better surfer? You can bet your fat fanny it can. How else can you sustain the energy for a physically challenging activity like surfing if you don't have enough energy coming from healthy foods and vitamins? A couple of hours of surfing and you're spent already without proper conditioning for surfing. So as not to bonk, eat slow-burning foods that offer energy over several hours. Have a stash of low-sugar protein bars. Avoid high sugar, highly refined carbohydrate foods that can lead to muscle and joint deterioration. Cut back on foods high in cholesterol. Even if you already know the basic surfing skills, you may sustain injury and your performance may deteriorate if you don't eat well. Sports nutritionists generally recommend a four to one ratio of carbohydrates to proteins. Some experts say that a meal after a workout should not be full of carbs. Protein will stimulate insulin response and refuel your body.

If you plan to surf all day long, eat lean meat or fish and brown rice the night before to have enough energy stores. At the beach, you can munch on fruits with fructose like apples, pears, peaches, and bananas that the body can absorb slower than processed sugar. Focus on eating for sustained energy and you'll have a blast surfing. Oh, and drop unhealthy habits like smoking.

Best Foods For High Protein Intake

Choosing the best protein-rich food is easy as long as you know what you're looking for. One food source is not made up of purely protein, we need to understand what it comes with to know if it will fit the diet we chose or more importantly, the diet that is best for us.

When we say protein we immediately think red meat and fish. A 6-ounce grilled porter house steak, for example, contains about 38grams of protein, but it also has 44grams of fat. 16grams of which is unsaturated. Red meat also has cholesterol, vitamin a, riboflavin, beta-carotene, potassium, calcium, iron, zinc and the list goes on. Beans, nuts and wheat are also high in protein but it also has healthy fiber content and vitamins. We need all of these but how much depends on our diet.

Below is a simple list of protein-rich food. This should be useful not only for people who religiously checks the nutrient content of everything they put in their mouths but also for those who are starting to watch what they eat.

Beef
• ¼ lb Burger Patty - 28g of protein
• 1lb Broiled Steak - 38 g of protein
• ¼ lb of other beef cuts - 28g of protein

Chicken
• Chicken breast, 3.5 oz - 30g protein
• Chicken thigh - 10g (for average size)
• Drumstick - 11g
• Wing - 6g
• Chicken meat, cooked, 4 oz - 35 grams

Fish
• Most fish fillets or steaks are about 22 grams of protein for 3 ½ oz (100 grams) of cooked fish, or 6 grams per ounce
• Tuna, 6 oz can - 40g of protein

Pork
• Pork chop, average - 22g protein
• Pork loin or tenderloin, 4 oz - 29g
• Ham, 3 oz serving - 19g
• Ground pork, 1 oz raw - 5g; 3 oz cooked - 22g
• Bacon, 1 slice - 3g
• Canadian-style bacon (back bacon), slice - 5 - 6g

Eggs and dairy
• Egg, large - 6g protein
• Milk, 1 cup - 8g
• Cottage cheese, 1 cup - 30g
• Yogurt, 1 cup - usually 8-12g, check label
• Soft cheeses (Mozzarella, Brie, Camembert) - 6g per oz
• Medium cheeses (Cheddar, Swiss) - 7 or 8g per oz
• Hard cheeses (Parmesan) - 10g per oz

Beans including soy
• Tofu, 1 cup - 40g protein
• Tofu, 1 lb - 37g
• Soy milk, 1 cup - 6 -10g
• Soy beans, 1 cup cooked - 28g protein
• Split peas, 1 cup cooked - 16g

Nuts and seeds
• Almonds, 1 cup - 32g
• Peanuts, 1 cup - 36g
• Cashews, 1 cup - 20g
• Pecans, 1 cup - 10g
• Sunflower seeds, 1cup - 24g
• Pumpkin seeds, 1 cup - 32g
• Flax seeds - 1 cup - 32g

Chicken and fish are favorites for people who does not want too many calories and unsaturated fat in their high protein diet. For vegetarians who need high doses of protein soy, nuts and beans are preferred. Ovolactovegetarians eat poultry like egg (usually the whites) and milk to get higher doses of protein. These days there are also alternatives like ready to drink protein sticks and powdered whey protein that body builders use to make shakes.

San Francisco California

San Francisco, California is also known as "The City by the Bay". The City and County of San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in California and the fourteenth most populous city in the U.S., with an estimated populated of 744,041 as of 2006. The city is most well known for its chilly summer fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of Victorian and modern architecture, and its peninsular location.

Famous landmarks include the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, the cable cars, Coit Tower and Chinatown. Fisherman's Wharf is also a must-see for tourists and a favorite place for residents.

The city is also infamous for the major earthquake on the morning of April 19, 1906 that ruptured gas lines and ignited fires that destroyed over three-quarters if the city. More than 200,000 people were left homeless and settled into temporary tent villages in Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, on the beaches, or elsewhere. When it was time to rebuild, the destroyed mansions of Nob Hill became grand hotels, City Hall rose again and the city celebrated is rebirth in 1915 at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition.

The San Andreas and Hayward Faults are responsible for much earthquake activity, although neither passes directly through the city itself.

San Francisco's peninsular geography makes the city unique. San Francisco, California is located on the west coast of the U.S. at the tip of the San Francisco Peninsula. It includes significant stretches of the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. Several islands are also part of the city including, Alcatraz, Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island. The uninhabited Farallon Islands are also included in the city and are 27 miles offshore in the Pacific Ocean.

San Francisco is famous for hills, with more than 50 just within the city limits. Some of these illustrious hills include Nob Hill, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill, Potrero Hill and Telegraph Hill. Mount Sutro is the site of Sutro Tower, a large red and white television transmission tower. Twin Peaks is a pair of hills resting at one of the highest points in the city and is a popular spot for tour groups. The city's tallest hill, Mount Davidson, is 925 feet high and is capped with a 103 feet tall cross.

Entire neighborhoods such as Marina and Hunters Point and sections of Embarcadero sit on areas of landfill because the city has outgrown its natural limits. Treasure Island was constructed from material dredged from the bay as well as material resulting from tunneling through Yerba Island during the building of the Bay Bridge.

The historic center of San Francisco is home to the Financial District, with Union Square, the principal shopping and hotel district nearby.

Union Square is home to some of the finest department stores including Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale's. Nordstrom's is just off the square on Market. The park is planted with thousands of non-native trees and plants and is rich with attractions including the Conservatory of Flowers, the Japanese Tea Garden and Strybing Arboretum. The Presidio and Crissy Field are part of the Golde Gate National Recreation Area, which includes Alcatraz. Buena Vista Park is the city's oldest park, established in 1867. Lake Merced is a freshwater lake surrounded by parkland.

San Francisco is characterized by a high standard of living. Property value and household income have escalated to be among the highest in the nation, allowing the city to support a large restaurant and entertainment infrastructure.

Reflecting San Francisco's high-class economy, luxury dining graces the streets of the city. The Davies Symphony Hall is home to the San Francisco Symphony. The Herbst Theatre stages a mix of musical performances and public radio's City Arts & Lectures. The Fillmore is a popular music venue and has fostered the San Francisco Sound with artists such as the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane.

The American Conservatory Theater routinely stages original productions. The city also frequently hosts touring Broadway productions in a number of vintage venues in the Theater District including Curran, Orpheum and Golden Gate Theatres.

San Francisco celebrates history and art in the Museum of Modern Art, the Palace of the Legion of Honor, the De Young Museum, the Asian Art Museum. Tthe Palace of Fine Arts today houses the Exploratorium, a popular science museum dedicated to teaching through hands-on interaction. The California Academy of Sciences is a natural history museum and hosts the Morrison Planetarium and Steinhart Aquarium. The San Francisco Zoo cared for roughly 250 animal species, 39 of which have been deemed endangered or threatened.

Tourism is the backbone of the San Francisco economy. Its frequent portrayal in music, film and popular culture has made the city and its landmarks recognizable worldwide. San Francisco attracts the fifth highest number of foreign tourists of any city in the United States and claims Pier 39 near Fisherman's Wharf to be the third-most popular tourist attraction in the nation.

San Francisco is also the principal banking and finance center of the west coast. Known as the "Wall Street of the West", Montgomery Street is home to the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. The Wells Fargo corporate headquarters and the site of the former Pacific Stock Exchange are all held there. Bank of America was also founded in San Francisco. San Francisco is a Beta World City, with over thirty international financial institutions, six Fortune 500 companies and services including law, public relations, architecture and graphic design.

Small businesses make up 85 percent of the city's establishments. The penetration of national big box retail chains into the city has been slow. The Small Business Commission supports a publicity campaign to keep a larger share of retail dollars in the local economy in an effort to buoy small privately owned businesses in San Francisco.

The Best Medifast Foods

One of the most common questions that I'm asked about this diet is how the food taste and whether the texture or after taste is good or bad. The truth is, I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and the quality of the food. Unfortunately, there are over 70 choices available and if I reviewed every one of them, we'd be here all day. Instead, I'll outline and review what I believe are the best Medifast foods, in the hopes that this review gives you a good overview of what you can expect from the foods of this diet.

The Medifast Shakes: These are probably the best known aspect of the plan, but I find that there is a misconception that this is a liquid only diet. It isn't. Yes, the shakes are very popular and yes, people sometimes consume more of them than the other choices because they are pretty tasty and filling. But, should you chose this diet, you'll be eating six times per day. So, it's safe to say that you'll also consume your fair share of the other foods, like the eggs, oatmeals, protein bars, chips, soups, stews, cappuccino, hot chocolate, fruit drinks, and pudding, etc.

With that said, the shakes are very popular because they taste good, are pretty filling, and have decent flavor choices like Dutch chocolate, Swiss mocha, and French vanilla. They're also pretty easy to assemble. You have the choice of the ready to drink shakes which are already made for you and the kind that you mix yourself in a blender. These are also quick and easy and you can also control the texture of the finished product. I also add fat free syrups and sometimes fat free whipped cream to add even more variety, but the taste of the shakes without any enhancements are pretty decent. There is no chalky texture and no weird after taste. They are also pretty versatile. You can freeze them for an ice cream effect or you can use them as base for other recipes like cookies and brownies.

The Chili And The Eggs: I eat both of these options several times per week. The eggs are nice at breakfast of course, either straight up or with veggies added to make an omelet. But, they are also extremely versatile for meals well after morning. You can wrap them in a fat free tortilla with fat free cheese and have a nice wrap. I use the chili in much the same way. It makes a mean burrito, especially when you throw in some fat free sour cream.

The Medifast Protein Bars: Since you eat six times per day on this diet, you appreciate it when you only have to open a wrapper, eat and go. Such is the case with these bars. These taste very nice and some of the flavors are real standouts. The chocolate mint reminds me of girl scout thin mint cookies and I really like the chewy texture of the peanut butter bar. The only downside to these is that the company only wants you to eat two of these per day since they are a bit higher in calories. However, when you need a sweet fix or need to eat something quickly, these more than fit the bill.

The Cappuccino And The Hot Chocolate: In case you haven't figured it out, I like sweets. And, I really like sweets first thing in the morning. I used to be a Starbucks junkie, but these are nice substitutions. These are two separate foods but I mix them together (careful to use only 1/2 serving each) to concoct something that is a lot like a mocha coffee. I am pretty confident that I will still consume these even when I'm on the maintenance phase of the diet.

The Oatmeal: I was a little hesitant when I found out that this is really a high protein diet. I'd tried Atkins and south beach before, but the lack of breakfast carbs like cereal was very difficult for me. I like eating cereal for dinner sometimes and I was very worried that I would have no good substitute. However, the Medifast oatmeal is quite good and allows me this carb-like fix at any time of the day. It taste a lot like Quaker and comes in nice flavors like brown sugar, blueberry, and peach.

The Medifast Pudding: This is a nice snack without any additions, but it's great when used as a base for other baked goods like muffins. I also use the fat free syrups and fat free whipped cream mentioned earlier to make sort of a mock ice cream sundae.

As a backpacker, you are defined as a budget traveller. You are more attractive to back packer hostels than expensive hotels, and you are into back packing because you are ready to travel. I have been travelling since i was nineteen, and i understand what it is like to budget travel. I had to stop travelling because i wanted to start a wonderful family. There is one place that i still continue to travel to this day, but not as a backpacker anymore. It is a place where it is so laid back, that i will not be bothered to give you the details about the history and politics of this country. So lets get into it.

Australia is made up 6 main states and 3 mainland territories. There are also another 8 Australian external territories.

1. New South Wales
New South Wales has beaches, busy cities, the outback, and snowy mountains. This is a great place to start a fantastic holiday. The western suburb has the outback, which includes old mining towns and landscapes. In the northern suburbs there is subtropical rainforest that hold rare and endangered species. If you wanted to reach the snowy mountains you can find them at Kosciuszko National Park.

- Sydney:

This city is the capital of New South Wales. It has beautiful harbours, good accommodation and transport. The majority of the population is down to earth, fun and loving. The attitude is very welcoming because most people there are open to answering your questions, so they can point you out into the right direction. The places you should see in Sydney include:

The main two landmarks: The Harbour Bridge & Opera House. To get a nice view of these places, you should take a ferry to Manly, it is way cheaper, or walk across the Harbour Bridge for free.
The Royal Botanical Gardens, this garden has many multiple walk ways and another opportunity to view more of the Harbour.
The Rocks, this place is a very old Sydney neighbourhood. It has historic buildings and with its market there is a personal charm to this place.
During Christmas and New Year, there is the annual celebration of Sydney to Hobart yacht racing. You should catch the best New Years celebrations as well.
Late in February, the every year celebration of Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is held that shows you a colourful parade in Sydney.

The best 'must do' activities in New South Wales:

2. Queensland

- Brisbane:

This city is the capital of Queensland. This is a desirable place to live in Australia; it is the largest city in Queensland. It is sophisticated in the urban areas, which some people there call it Bris-neyland or Bris-vegas. The places you should see in Brisbane include:

Moreton Bay has around 305 islands. You can bush walk, off-road and sunbathe all on the same day.
North Stadbroke lets you easily catch ferries, take tours or dive to see marine life like whales and dolphins.
The city Botanic Gardens is a good place for a quiet lunch near the river.
Roma street Parklands.
Mt Coot has a tour that you can use to see more of the city and its surrounding islands.
Kangaroo Point Lookout is a place that you will be climbing or abseiling to see its views.
South Banks Parklands is very attractive to many backpackers, because there is an artificial beach that you can swim and relax in.

With it being so spacious, you can travel there and not pass towns for miles. You will just see isolated petrol stations on passing by highways. Some of the places you should see in Western Australia include:

This is the smallest state. You can reach particular destinations in a days drive. Some of the places you should see in Western Australia include:

- Melbourne

This city is the capital of Victoria. It has lovely parks and gardens. Melbourne is on the banks of the Yarra River and shores of Port Phillip Bay. It is the second largest city and has around four million people. See the Grampians National Park that has wildlife

Take the time to enjoy my favourite locations, enjoy the laid back community and be free to do it. With my chosen locations, they are inexpensive and you can save a lot by not spending so much. The only thing you need to stress about is, when it will be the next time I come back to Australia going to happen again. Time does fly by when you are there.

Acai Side Effects - Evaluating Supplement Safety

Have you ever loved a particular food so much that you swore you could live off it without ever eating anything else? I tend to say that about chocolate, among other things, but we all know it's unrealistic.

Why?

Because no single food carries enough nutritional value to sustain you throughout life. Would you believe that one comes close though? The acai berry.

Yes, acai berry contains enough proteins, minerals, and nutrients that you might actually survive on nothing but this little berry.

With all of this nutritional value, it's no wonder why acai has flooded the market in the form of juices and supplements. Who doesn't want to benefit from the wealth of heart healthy antioxidants found in acai?

I don't know about you, but I'm a busy person who, sadly, doesn't always find the time to eat well balanced meals three times daily. Luckily, the benefits of acai are now packed into supplement form, however, there are too many to choose from!

You're probably reading this because you are asking the same questions I was asking: What are the acai side effects? What supplement should I take? After searching through every available resource, I stumbled on some helpful information.

I'm going to get to the very best resource I found for choosing acai supplements that actually work in just a second, so make sure to stay tuned. But first, we need to cover a few things so you can make a smart decision for yourself.

I wanted the benefits of acai with the convenience of taking a supplement, but I wasn't too trusting of every company who swore on their product. I wanted to know the acai side effects before routinely taking the supplements. And with so many supplements on the market, how do you know which is best? You would not believe the amount of research I had to do!

The first thing I noticed when researching acai side effects is that this little berry is quite popular! Both Dr. Oz. and Dr. Perricone talked about acai on Oprah Winfrey's show, calling it the "number one super-food" and adding it to the Anti-Aging Checklist. But I digress...

The problem with acai supplements is that they market all of the acai benefits, such as weight loss, cholesterol management, and concentrated antioxidant power, but they don't talk about the drawbacks -- if there even are any.

Moreover, some of the supplement manufacturers chose to complement acai with other ingredients, such as green tea extract. How do you know the best product?

I enjoy the occasional glass of red wine - not only for the taste but also for the health benefits. So when I found that some acai supplements also contain resveratrol (the beneficial component of grape skins), my supplement indecisiveness further increased. "Which supplement is best?" I kept asking myself (and anyone who would listen).

I've learned that any hesitation to taking the supplements isn't founded in the berry itself, but in the quality of the acai berry product. You need to know which products contain the highest quality ingredients to experience the true benefits of the acai berry.

Shut Up and Gimme All Your Money

As a comic book fan, I have often asked myself this one compelling question. How much am I willing to pay for my comics? Especially since I am a Canadian comic book reader and we pay more for our comics than our American brothers and sisters do. What cost you $2.99 would cost us Canuks $3.75; we really have something to squawk about.

In these tough economic times we must really consider where and how we are going to spend our money which is allotted for entertainment. I myself have taken the stance to stop seeing movies at the theater unless it is really something I have to see. I would rather wait and watch it on DVD because then I could rent like three movies for the same price as watching one at the theatre. I have cut back on how many trips I make to the bars and restaurants. The added benefit to that is I have ended up eating healthier, and what I bought doesn't end up getting the royal flush at the end of the night. So far so good, all the decisions I have made to save money here and there, have been rational and logical choices.

Even when it comes to my vehicle, and let me start off by saying that I am NOT a fan of public transportation, I think it sucks for the most part. I hate being crammed into elongated tin can with wheels. However, I have opted to use public transit in order to save costs on gas where I can and if it helps the environment in the process, well all the better. In general I have found that these adjustments have not been hard for me to do, well with the exception of the public transit example. In fact, I don't know why I didn't start doing some of these things sooner to save my coin.

Which brings me back to that one haunting question, why can I not just as easily cut back on my comic book addiction? Am I in fact a junkie? Are comic books my crack? Let's break it down for a second. We all heard the rumors in years past of how eventually the big publishers were going to begin charging more for singles. We as fans hooted and hollered about how we were NOT GOING TO PAY these outrageous prices. But here we are, myself included doing exactly what we swore we were not going to do. A typical 22 page single issue comic book is now costing on average between; $2.99-$3.99 per book. If you buy 15 singles every week at the $2.99 price point you are spending about roughly $44.85. If you are paying $3.99 you will be spending $59.85 a week, OUCH!!

One can argue that we as comic book consumers are justifying the price gouging going on in the industry because we are purchasing the books. Do we have a choice? Why are we being penalized for enjoying this particular form of entertainment? Here we have the comic book publishers' pushing the pricing envelope higher and higher, just to see how much really is too much money to ask for from your readership to shuck out every week. The thing that the publishers seem to be forgetting is that most comic book fans have one shared commonality and that's loyalty, too a fault sometimes. We are the ones that stick to our passion for the medium and actually care about the characters and longevity of that medium. The publishers should recognize this loyalty and reward us for it, instead of hiking up prices. I don't believe it is right for them to simply put money in their pockets on the backs of the fan base. We the readership are the bread and butter of the business, we have stuck by our love for comics through the good times and bad. Why then can't the publishers do the same for us? Especially with the economy the way it is right now. If the comic book companies continue to inflate their pricing, we may see the demise of the local comic shop, and eventually comics themselves, and no one wants that.

If you take for example the recent release of Vertigo's book The Unwritten, a lot of people probably would have passed on this title if it was not for the cover price of $1.00. This was a really great book in my opinion and because of the price point; I ended up buying the second issue which was priced at $2.99, which is still reasonable for a good piece of work.

So does the answer lye in the trades and graphic novels? I have myself turned to trades for certain titles that have been recommended to me, that I have missed out on from the original release date. Usually a TPB can go from anywhere between $9.00-$16.00 but you are also getting 200 pages give or take and no adds. I certainly think that you can get more bang for your buck. I would also like to mention that most comic book shops have a discounted price for their trades, which reduces the price even further. You are able to get multiple issues in one bound edition for cheaper that it would cost to buy the same amount of issues in singles. After saying that I am still a huge fan of the floppies, I love the art, I love the format, and it's a nostalgic thing for me.

I think that there is more than one answer to this question. First off, comic book fans, we are going to have to be more selective about the titles we buy. We may have to accept the fact that we may not be able to collect every issue of every series or character we like. Example Wolverine, you could go broke on him alone. I think that the publishers are going to have to recognize that if they want to stay in business and keep their readership up, they may have to sacrifice a little bit of the profit and meet us half way on price point. I think the local comic book shops are going to have to come up with creative ways to keep their clients coming back each week by giving discount days on new issues, back issues, trades, and other products, as an added incentive to buy. We can all be happy if we are all willing to compromise just a little.

In closing, have I in fact answered my own question? How much am I willing to pay? Well I can firmly say that $3.99 is as far as my budget is willing to stretch. I think that you as fellow fans need to figure out what price is right for you and stick to it. I believe that this is the only way any of the publishers will ever get the message. If the publisher really wanted to be revolutionary I say hold a comic price referendum. We are a democratic society aren't we? Give out multiple price points and see what the average comic book reader is willing to pay, but I doubt they have the balls to do that so, we must break our addictions in order to actually sustain them in the future. Comic book companies are business like everything else; at the end of the day they care about numbers. Use your money as your voice, pick a price and by God stick to it, it's time to say ENOUGH!

Great Price Clif Bar for

Luna Cookie Luna Cookie, Chocolate Mint 12 ea Review

If you love the regular Luna bars you will probably adore the new Luna cookies. While the bars are crisp, the cookies are soft and chewy. There are 9g Whole Grains and 3g fiber. This is also high in Calcium and Folic Acid.

The ingredients include: Organic Evaporated Cane Juice Syrup, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Oat Flour, Organic Peanut Butter, Organic Fig Paste, Organic Roasted Peanuts, Organic Flaxseed Meal, Organic Chocoloate, Organic Oat Fiber, Natural Flavors, Sea Salt, Baking Soda, vitamins and minerals.

Comparred to the other cookies Luna is making these seem to have the most fat and calories. There are 150 calories and 50 of those calories are from fat. But compare this to a 100g cookie you would make at home with butter and you end up with 488 calories and 28g fat. So eating a Luna bar suddenly looks much more healthy even though it does have sugars and fat.

If I had to choose between a chocolate chip cookie and this Luna cookie I'd choose the Luna Cookie because it tastes better. I also love that this is 95% organic.

5 Ways to Speed Your Metabolism

The key to speeding your metabolism is to re-ignite the furnace inside of you. The key is eating and exercising. You will never jump start your metabolism by not eating. Eating is absolutely key! Isn't that good to know? You must adapt a healthy way of eating before you begin to exercise, especially if you have been sedentary for a while.

You hear stories of people who go out to shovel snow, and have a heart attack on the spot. Many times it's because they weren't used to exercising the heart that hard, and the heart couldn't take it. For this reason, I believe it is important to get the nutrition down first. For speeding the metabolism, you need to do a few things:

1. Eat some protein at each meal to keep the body in calorie burning mode and your glycemic index as low as possible.

2. Drink half your body weight in ounces daily. It will help you detoxify daily.

3. Eat at least 2 large servings of dark leafy greens daily. (Preferably with lunch and supper). Green vegetables clean and deodorize our bodies, our blood, our tissues and our organs. Eat lots of greens if you want a healthy life!

4. Eat unprocessed, natural whole foods as much as possible. Processed foods only sustain life, but do nothing to promote health.

5. Eat organic foods whenever possible. They don't contain antibiotics and growth hormones.

Extra Bonus Tip

Once you have the nutrition down in just a couple of weeks, be sure to get the okay from your doctor to start an exercise program.

Start to incorporate exercise slowly. Never go gangbusters if you've been sedentary for a while. Ease into it, and increase by 5 minutes per day until you are comfortable with 20-30 minutes of aerobic exercise daily. Strength training and Flexibility are also a must!

You can do it. You will have more energy and you will feel great!
